When architects Cox Rayner specified Unison Joints for Stage 2 of the massive Gold Coast Convention Centre in Queensland, they were taking three steps to improve their project’s performance. With well over a kilometre of bespoke coverplate systems to be designed and installed, and another km of waterproof and/or fireproof seals, this work would usually involve a significant amount of planning, labour, and oversight.

But Unison’s unique pre-assembled systems were:

  1. factory made to the precise measurements,
  2. able to be fitted in significantly less time than other systems, and
  3. the client was guaranteed a perfect job every time.

By working directly with the clients, the products can be tailor-made for the job and supplied on a just-in-time basis, minimizing logistical delays and costly storage and damage.

And because the units are fitted fully assembled, there’s no need for fiddly adjustments or last minute modifications – so long as the surfaces to be bridged are within prescribed tolerances, the joint can be bonded in place in one simple procedure, ensuring a perfect finish every time.

Although the scale of this project was quite vast, it’s not the only time Unison has built a strong reputation for their products in similar convention centres across Australasia, and has been called on to supply solutions to major convention centres…

As well as the Gold Coast Convention Centre, where Unison supplied 2.5km of product in total (including over a km of waterproof and/or fireproof seals), Unison designed and installed 300m of bespoke coverplate systems and another 400m of fireproof and/or waterproof seals for the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

And prior to that Unison supplied 330m of heavy and light duty coverplate systems to Multiplex for the Melbourne Convention Centre.

More recently Unison supplied products to projects like the ICC Sydney Convention Centre, and a number of sports facilities Sydney Cricket Ground, Westadium in Perth, and the Queensland Tennis Centre. And as their markets have expanded, they’ve provided product to projects as far afield as the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in the UAE, and even over very own Eden Park refurbishment for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The range of Unison Joints are tested and certified to Australian, British and New Zealand standards. It includes products for floors and walls, for internal or external use, including Ceilings, Roofs, Carparks, and Pavements. If Unison don’t have a product that’s right for your job, their Design Team will work with you to create something specific. They’re perhaps best known for their work in large public buildings, like Shopping Malls, but we’ll save that story for another day.

The Unison Joint range is supplied in NZ by Neuchatel Limited. For the last 100+ years Neuchatel has been at the forefront of the paving and waterproofing industry. In this time they’ve refined their products and services to be more durable, environmentally friendly and affordable – especially for large scale projects.
