PERMANITE MASTIC ASPHALT:

ROBUST

SAFE

LONG-LASTING

EFFICIENT INSTALLATION
Installing neuchatel is fast, safe and incredibly quick to dry, so you can complete your project in a shorter time frame. neuchatel can also be laid on most types of rigid sub-structure and we can lay up to 200sqm per day
SMARTER FINISH
A variety of textured finishes are available to suit the use of your building, each one designed with longevity in mind.
whether gripping for heavy traffic, UV protection for roofing, or a coloured decorative finish.
LOW MAINTENANCE
Our Mastic Asphalt is designed to be as low maintenance as possible, and therefore requires very little cleaning, so it won’t need replacing for a very long time. Therefore it is the perfect material for areas where access is limited and irregular.
FAQ’s
SPECIFICATIONS
Where is Neuchatel from?
Neuchatel is manufactured in the UK under the BS EN ISO9001 Quality Assurance Scheme.
How robust is it?
It is the most robust system available on the market. One of the great attributes of the system is that once installed it can be used for storage and walked on without problem. Sharp objects could penetrate the membrane but this is easily repaired.
How much does it cost?
A 20mm (2x10mm) Neuchatel roofing system generally costs only slightly more than a two layer bituminous membrane system.
How long does it take to lay?
Despite being labour intensive, installing Neuchatel is surprisingly quick work.
A skilled spreading team can complete around 200sqm of open deck area every day.
You can walk on your Neuchatel roof or car park as soon as the Neuchatel has cooled enough to turn into solidified form, which is generally around an hour. It is best to leave Neuchatel system of average thickness about three hours to properly cure.
Does it smell?
The mastic asphalt that Neuchatel sources is of a very high quality. It melts very cleanly and does not give off much odor at all.
What about the fumes of the molten mastic asphalt, is it dangerous?
What looks like fumes is in fact steam rising, environmental health officers would not allow us to install a dangerous product. We strictly adhere to health and safety regulations and international codes of best practice.
What substrates are required?
Neuchatel can be laid on most types of rigid sub-structure such as concrete, pre-cast concrete deck units, timber boarding, metal decking and other proprietary decking units.
Thermal insulation materials can easily be laid as part of a mastic asphalt specification to give any required U-value.
What surface finishes are available?
A sand finish can be provided to produce a surface suitable for traffic. Alternatively a coating system must be applied for solar reflectivity and to provide a decorative finish.
How much does it weigh?
The weight of Neuchatel varies because of differing compositions. The precise coverage obtained will depend upon a number of factors such as the nature of the added coarse aggregate. For the purpose of calculating loading use 2.4 kg./m2 per mm. of thickness for the laid material. Therefore a 20 mm job weighs 48 kg.
Can You Collect Drinking Water from Neuchatel?
Neuchatel is non-toxic and is suitable for use in contact with potable water.

PERFORMANCE
Control of water vapour
The vapour resistivity of Neuchatel can be assumed to be not less than 1000 000 MNs/(gm). For condensation control calculations a factor of 20 000MNs/(gm) may be taken (i.e. the ratio of the vapour resistivity of the material to that of still air) see also BS 6229:2003.
Resistance to water
Neuchatel is impervious to water.
Resistance to biological attack
Neuchatel is vermin-proof and rot-proof.
Fire
Because of its high mineral content, Neuchatel is virtually incombustible. Indicative tests have been performed on samples of insulated mastic asphalt roof decks in accordance with the procedures specified in (draft) European Standard prEN 1187-1 and prEN 1187-2. No significant flame spread was observed and no flame penetration occurred in either test.
Neuchatel fulfils all the external fire resistance required for a roof covering, and achieved the highest rating (P60) when tested as described in BS 476: Part 3.
Neuchatel is the only polymer modified mastic asphalt that is LPCB approved.
Thermal conductivity
Neuchatel is thermoplastic and is capable of accommodating normal movements encountered in well-designed building structures.
Coefficient of cubic expansion
The coefficient of cubic expansion is 15 x 10/°C.
Toxicity
Neuchatel is non-toxic and is generally suitable for use in contact with potable water.
Odour
Neuchatel is odourless after laying.
